The first week in a new country is a blur. Between jet lag, registration and finding your way around, it is easy to forget the practical things. Here is a simple checklist to keep you on track.
Before you land
- Arrange airport pickup so someone is there when you arrive
- Add an eSIM so you are connected the moment you land
- Save your accommodation address and check-in instructions offline
- Keep your key documents and arrival details easy to reach
Your first 48 hours
- Collect your keys and check your room against the inventory
- Get connectivity working and share that you have arrived safely
- Locate the nearest shop, pharmacy and transport stop
- Note your emergency and support contacts
Your first week
- Complete university registration and orientation
- Set up a local bank account (bring the documents your bank asks for)
- Learn your route to campus and try it once before classes start
- Register with a local doctor if that applies where you are
On NestAbroad, a guided first-week checklist walks you through orientation, SIM, bank-account guidance and getting to know your area — and you can request support from any task if you get stuck.
It is normal to feel unsettled
Give yourself time. Belonging in a new place takes more than a week, and asking for help is a strength, not a failure. Support is one message away when you need it.
